Michigan Tuition Grant


Only students enrolled in the bachelor's degree program in philosophy are eligible for the MTG consideration. 

The Michigan Tuition Grant is available to undergraduate Michigan residents with financial need who plan to attend or are attending independent, degree-granting Michigan postsecondary institutions.


Applicants must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) prior to July 1 preceding Fall 2013 enrollment. Students are encouraged to file their FAFSA on the Web at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/. Paper forms are available from the Federal Student Aid Information Center by calling 1-800-4-FED-Aid or a printable version can be accessed on the Web site http://studentaid.ed.gov/redirects/federal-student-aid-ed-gov. Students must file a renewal FAFSA every year to determine possible continued program eligibility. Students are responsible for notifying the Office of Scholarships and Grants (OSG) of a change in their college choice.

Program Limits

Awards are restricted to tuition and mandatory fees. Awards pay up to a maximum of $1,512 per academic year. Students may receive the equivalent of ten (10) semesters or 15 terms of full-time assistance as an undergraduate. Future awards are subject to available and approved funding.

Eligibility Failure to meet these requirements could affect eligibility for an award.

  • Demonstrate financial need.
  • Enroll at least half-time at an approved independent, degree-granting Michigan postsecondary institution.
  • Possess a high school or GED certificate or meet the institution's Ability to Benefit Standards.
  • Be a Michigan resident since July 1 of the previous calendar year.
  • Be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident or approved refugee.
  • Meet institution's satisfactory academic progress (SAP) policy.
  • Not be incarcerated.
  • Cannot be enrolled in a course of study leading to a degree in theology, divinity or religious education.
  • Not be in a default on a federal student loan.


Other Gift Aid

It is the responsibility of the college financial aid office to coordinate all sources of aid for which you may be eligible. Other gift aid may reduce or cancel this award.
