The Financial Aid Office is here to help you access the financial support you need to pursue your educational and formation goals. Our mission is to support you—academically, spiritually, and vocationally—by providing resources and guidance every step of the way.

🏛️ Institutional Grants (Sacred Heart)
Students serving in ministry or Catholic education within the Archdiocese of Detroit may qualify for:

Fishermen’s Fund

ACE Grant (Archdiocese of Detroit Catechetical Education Grant) – service-based

Pastoral Ministry Grant – need-based

💳 Federal Student Loans
Available to students enrolled at least half-time in a degree program:

Stafford Subsidized/ Unsubsidized student loans

Undergraduate: 6 credit hours minimum

Graduate: 4 credit hours minimum

🏛️ State of Michigan Aid

📝 How to Apply for Aid
To apply for Sacred Heart grants, federal aid, or state aid:

Submit the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) for each academic year

To be considered for Sacred Heart aid, complete:

✅ ACE Grant Certification Form (if eligible)
(For students teaching theology or serving in parish catechesis in the Archdiocese of Detroit) -
✅ Fishermen’s Fund Application & Pledge Agreement (if applicable)
(Include personal statement – submit annually) -
✅ Pastoral Ministry Grant Application (if eligible)

📅 Award Notifications Sent: July (to student’s official SHMS email)

📝 Late applications (through mid-May) will be considered if funding remains

💬 Spring awards and mid-year adjustments are reviewed as funds allow
📢 Viewing & Accepting Your Awards
Students can review award letters and billing statements in Populi under the Financial/Financial Aid tab.
You’ll be able to:

Accept/decline gift aid

Accept/decline/reduce federal loans
⚠️ Withdrawing & Financial Aid Adjustments
Federal Funds
If a student withdraws before completing 60% of the term, federal aid will be returned per federal policy in this order:

Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loans
-
Federal Subsidized Stafford Loans
-
Federal Pell Grants
-
Federal SEOG
You may owe a balance due to full tuition charges and only partial aid eligibility.
Institutional Aid
If you drop or withdraw:
-
Sacred Heart grants/scholarships may be removed or reassigned to another term within the same academic year.

If a grant exceeds your charges, excess aid will be removed or reassigned.
Archdiocese of Detroit Funds

Aid will be adjusted in response to course withdrawals.
