The Institute for Lay Ministry (ILM) is the administrative branch of Sacred Heart Major Seminary that facilitates admissions, offers advising, and provides formation opportunities and other student services for commuter students who are enrolled in the seminary's degree and diploma programs, as well as for those students who wish to take courses for their own faith enrichment.

Our role is to guide you through admissions, connect you to academic advising and provide formation opportunities, help you to discern which degree or diploma program is right for you, serve students preparing for various lay ministries and leadership roles, including the permanent diaconate, and provide continuing education programs (Formation) to assist students seeking Lay Ministerial Certification in the Archdiocese of Detroit.
