Sacred Heart Major Seminary's speaker series for lay ecclesial ministers, In the Heart of the Church, provides ongoing formation to men and women serving full-time or part-time in the Archdiocese of Detroit and neighboring dioceses.
The program features presentations from renowned Catholic leaders who are experts in their fields in an environment that fosters learning and fellowship among ministry peers. In the Heart of the Church is free of charge and includes lunch.
Online registration is now open (see below). Spaces are limited. You are encouraged to register as early as possible. Gather together your parish leadership team and come along as a group! Event will be hosted at Sacred Heart Major Seminary.
In the Heart of the Church speaker series kicks off its third inspiring season. Lay ministers will enjoy presentations by two Catholic evangelists with dynamic national ministries. Learn new ways to make “intentional disciples” of young people in your parish—and reach Millennials outside of the parish.
The keynote speaker is Fr. Michael Schmitz, director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry for the Diocese of Duluth and chaplain at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. Through his preaching and teaching, Father reaches out to youth across the country about the love of Christ and the call of the Church for new saints to be raised up—and to rise up—right here and now.
Pete Burak will join Father Michael for a lively Q&A session. Pete is director of i.d.9:16, an outreach to Catholic young adults. Pete holds an MA in Theology from Sacred Heart and is a former University of Michigan basketball player. He will address the “crisis of discipleship” (Pope Benedict) in the Church today.
In the Heart of the Church could be like a mini-retreat for you and your parish co-workers. Stoke up your “missionary impulse” (Pope Francis) so you can fire it up in the hearts of those to whom you minister.
The Lay Ecclesial Ministry Speaker Series event for November 9 is sold out. We look forward to hosting more than 300 lay ministers from the Archdiocese of Detroit and neighboring dioceses to Sacred Heart.
Recordings of this event will be posted on Sacred Heart social media channels.
