New Evangelization STL to Be Offered Online

In August, Sacred Heart Major Seminary received permission from the Vatican Congregation for Catholic Education to offer its Licentiate in Sacred Theology (STL) through an online format with limited on-campus instruction. This new program is open only to Catholic priests. Now, priests from around the world can earn their STL without leaving home, except for five weeks each summer during the four-year program.

Established in 2004 with the approval of the Congregation for Catholic Education and through aggregation with the Pontifical University of St. Thomas (the Angelicum), the Licentiate in Sacred Theology is the first program of its kind with a concentration in the New Evangelization. And now, it is the only program of its kind that is offered online.

“It is our sincere hope that this innovative program will make this ecclesiastical degree more accessible to the priests who want to be leaders in the New Evangelization,” says Rector Msgr. Todd J. Lajiness. “We recognize how difficult it is for bishops to send their priests away for two to three years of study. This new program helps them to solve this problem.

“Our entire faculty is excited to be able to play this role in what we believe will be a significant aid in our efforts to advance the mission of the Church through the New Evangelization.”

Classes begin in summer of 2014 and the registration deadline is April 15, 2014. Interested students may apply online and find more information on the STL webpage or inquire by phone at 313-883-8520.
