Janet Diaz

Dr. Janet Diaz earned her BA degree in English from the University of Pittsburgh (1977).  She continued at the University of Pittsburgh and earned her MA degree (1982) in Linguistics, with a certificate as an Instructor in English as a Second Language.  Dr. Diaz earned her Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies degree from Sacred Heart Major Seminary in 2008 and her Doctor of Ministry degree at Barry University in 2013.
 
Dr. Diaz is the Dean of the Institute for Ministry, the administrative arm of SHMS that serves its commuter student population.  She also serves as Director of Formation for all of the lay ministry programs.  As dean, Dr. Diaz is a member of the SHMS Administrative Council.  She also serves on a number of committees, including the Undergraduate and Graduate Admissions committees, the MA/MAPS committee, the Undergradute Degree committee, and the Board of Trustees Student Life Committee.  She is the academic advisor to all Graduate pre-requisite students. 
 
Prior to being appointed Dean of the IFM in August 2009, Dr. Diaz served as the Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management for SHMS.  In her roles prior to coming to SHMS, she has served the Archdiocese of Detroit as the coordinator for the First National Encounter for Hispanic youth and young adult ministry as well as a regional coordinator for Hispanic ministry. She also served as Pastoral Minister for Hispanic Ministry at St. Alfred Parish.  Dr. Diaz is an archdiocesan facilitator of "Protecting God's Children" for safe environments and child abuse awareness and prevention.
