Dr. Blosser is Professor of Philosophy at Sacred Heart Major Seminary.  Born in China and raised in Japan, he earned his BA in 1976 from Sophia University (Tokyo, Japan).  In 1979, he completed his MA in Religion from Westminster Theological Seminary (Philadelphia).  In 1980 he earned his MA in Philosophy from Villanova University (Philadelphia).  In 1985 he was awarded the PhD in Philosophy from Duquesne University (Pittsburgh).

 

Blosser has held teaching posts at Duquesne University (1983-1984), Harlaxton College, UK (1999, 2003), and Lenoir-Rhyne University in North Carolina (1984-2007).  He is the recipient of multiple academic awards, including the Raymond Morris Bost Distinguished Professor Award at Lenoir-Rhyne University (1990). He has also served as Great Books Seminar Leader annually at the I.D. and Madolyn Blumenthal Wildacres Retreat in Little Switzerland, NC (1986-2006).

 

His publications include numerous articles on subjects ranging from ethics and philosophy of religion to phenomenology, jurisprudence, Kant and Scheler.  He is author of Scheler's Critique of Kant's Ethics (1995), and co-editor of Japanese and Western Phenomenology (1993), Of Friendship (2002), and Advancing Phenomenology (2010).  He is also acting Secretary and Webmaster for the Max Scheler Society of North America, and has chaired various panel discussions at the American Philosophical Association and the American Catholic Philosophical Association.

 

In addition to his responsibilities of teaching philosophy in the College of Liberal Arts at Sacred Heart Major Seminary, Blosser has also served the institution on the Faculty Concerns, Library, and Undergraduate Commuter Admissions, Undergraduate Degree/Diploma, Faculty Search and Promotion, and Education Technology Committees.

 

Blosser, along with other members of his extended family, are shameless culinary hedonists and avid explorers of international cuisines.  Favorites include, along with their native Japanese, also Korean, Chinese, Thai, Lau, Indian, Italian, Mexican, Lebanese and -- a discovery since moving to Detroit -- Chaldean.  The blue-ribbon winner in this contest continues to be Japanese sushi, which he enjoys making at home.  Favorite beverages include Kiku-Masamune, Laphroaig, and Guinness. 

 

He is also an occasional blogger and Catholic Blog Awards Finalist for Most Intellectual Blog (2005) and Best Designed Catholic Blog (2007), and had been occasionally dragged kicking and screaming into that nefarious pit of the underworld known as Facebook, sometimes with only narrow escapes.
