Awardees Honored at Alumni Day 2012

The weather was graciously mild for mid-February (remember last year’s snow storm?) as 160 alumni and their family and friends gathered at the seminary to celebrate Alumni Day 2012, Sunday, February 19.

As always, attendees came to honor the achievements of the award winners. But also they met the new alumni association board members and the new alumni director, Fr. Richard Perfetto (SHS 1962); prayed at a moving vespers service led by the seminary rector; and had a cocktail or two while catching up with old classmates at the pre dinner reception.

Attendees enjoyed dinner in the gymnasium (beef tenderloin, salmon or chicken piccatta—and a desert bar!) at tables featuring sprays of spring flowers.

Vintage slides from the ninety-three-year history of the seminary faded in and out behind the stage, giving the event a tangible sense of history while jogging the memory (“Hey, isn’t that so-and-so?”)

Prior to the award ceremony, Mr. William Flavin (SHS 1961), the new alumni board chairperson, introduced each of the board members. Msgr. Jeffrey Monforton (SHS 1989) then presented commemorative plaques to the award winners. Msgr. George Browne (SHS 1951) and Mr. William Richardson (SHHS 1961, SHS 1965), outgoing alumni director and outgoing alumni board chairperson, received gifts of a religious icon and emphatic applause for their years of service to the alumni association.
