Marching for the Unborn
Even a blizzard couldn't stop this year's representatives from Sacred Heart from participating in the 32nd Annual March for Life in Washington, D.C., held Monday, January 24. Seminarians Joe Wienclaw, Hector Moreno, Brian Gerber and Virgilio Guerra planned on leaving by car on Saturday, the day a winter storm pummeled the Detroit area with twelve inches of snow. Instead, they weathered the storm and embarked on Sunday morning, arriving at the nation's capital in time for the evening Mass for Life at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.
The next morning, the seminarians and over 100,000 pro-life supporters marched through the frigid streets of Washington, finally gathering at the National Mall for a rally. The marchers hope to move the conscience of our nation so that soon, with God's help, the Roe v. Wade court decision that legalized abortion in 1973 will be rescinded. Says Brian, "As an American citizen, and as a Catholic, it is my duty to defend the unborn."
Upon their return, the seminarians are required to make a class presentation or write a news article about their experience.
