Monsignor Browne is New Alumni Director
Kate Bua, Director of Marketing
MOSAIC, Summer 2006

George Browne, Alumni Director
"Full speed ahead!" says Msgr. George Browne. He plans to energize Sacred Heart's alumni outreach efforts.
Former Rector, Fr. Steven Boguslawski announced on February 19, 2006, at the Alumni Day Celebration that Msgr. George Browne will be the new alumni director, effective June 1. The rector says he is hoping the reconfigured Office of Alumni Relations will be an additional service to our faithful alumni. Many colleges and universities have joined development and alumni activities, since traditionally the alumni are the most supportive of future plans and projects.

Monsignor Browne has already been serving as Cardinal Adam Maida's representative to the senior priests of the archdiocese. Many of the older alumni are also senior priests within Detroit, and so Monsignor's contact with this group would be a "natural" in the alumni office.

Monsignor Browne was ordained June 4, 1955, for the Archdiocese of Detroit, and is a member of the Sacred Heart High School Class of 1947 and Sacred Heart Seminary Class of 1951. He was made a senior priest in July 2000.

In 2005, he was named Monsignor by Pope Benedict XVI and invested with the title of Chaplain to His Holiness by Cardinal Maida. His many assignments spanning more than fifty-one years of active ministry have included Holy Cross, Marine City; Precious Blood, St. Brigid, St. Joseph and Assumption Grotto, Detroit; St. Benedict, Pontiac; St. Angela, Roseville; and numerous positions as temporary administrator.

Monsignor Browne has served as a chaplain in the Knights of Columbus since 1962. Sacred Heart presented him with the Msgr. Albert Matyn Award for Outstanding Retired Clergy in 2005.

The new alumni director hopes that in the future the Alumni Association has a stronger representation in the development programs to be implemented by the seminary. He looks to be a liaison between both groups to form a stronger bond and a better working relationship. Says Monsignor Browne, "For me to
be effective in this new role as alumni director, it will be necessary for me to work in collaboration with clergy and lay alumni of the seminary. I would be totally ineffective if I were to try to work in a vacuum.

"I want to get to know the alumni and have them get to know me. I trust that all will feel free to contact me by phone, by mail, by e-mail and by personal visits. May the Lord bless our efforts."
