First Part-time Faculty Day
Astrid Caicedo, Assistant Dean of Studies
MOSAIC, Fall 2010

Part-time Faculty DayThe Dean of Studies office hosted a faculty development day for over forty instructors who teach at Sacred Heart part-time. The two sessions, held on September 1 and September 2, marked the first time part-time faculty has gathered at the seminary as a group. The day is one step Sacred Heart is implementing to help part-time faculty become more integrated into the life of the seminary.

Each session began with a meal that offered instructors an opportunity to meet and greet their colleagues. Fr. Todd Lajiness, dean of studies, presented a reflection on the gospel passage "The Road to Emmaus." Jane Jeffrey, assistant dean of studies, reviewed the mission statement and institutional values espoused by the seminary and invited the attendees to give feedback. A review of academic programs and policies was presented by John Meldrum, registrar, and Astrid Caicedo, assistant dean of studies.

Participants assembled in the main chapel for the Profession of Faith and the Oath of Fidelity, which was the highlight of the sessions. The Oath of Fidelity is taken by all faculty members. It is a promise to be faithful to Catholic teachings-"to hold fast to the traditions you were taught" (2 Thes 2:15).
