The College Class of 1952 gathered in Sacred Heart’s Cardinal Dearden parlor on Monday, June 14. Fr. Daniel Murphy made the arrangements and he told us how welcoming the alumni office was in having us meet at our old alma mater. Previously, we had been meeting at St. John’s, the former provincial seminary in Plymouth. Now that these facilities are no longer available, we are happy to continue our meetings at Sacred Heart.
After registering, we gathered in the main chapel for Mass. I was honored to be the principal celebrant. Everyone felt a sense of pride and emotion with being present in such an awesome spot where many memories and spiritual habits had been formed many years ago.
After Mass, we returned to the parlor for refreshments and a wonderful meal. Sharing memories and experiences with one another was the best part of the meeting. There were forty-six invitations sent out to all we could contact. These were men who had been a part of our seminary experience over the years. Some had left the seminary during their years of formation, and some had left the priesthood after ordination. Yet, I believe all were feeling a strong bond with one another and with the Church.
A report was given about those who responded to the invitation but could not attend. A list of the thirty classmates who had died over the years was read with the date of their passing.
Everyone commented on the good condition of the seminary, how many activities were going on in the building and how warm and helpful everyone was toward us. It was remarkable how many physical changes had taken place and yet how much remained the same.
Here is a list of those who attended the reunion: Joseph Brady, Larry Brown, John Burke, George Cronin, Al Kosack, Jack LaJoy, Arnold Messing, Ray Moeggenberg, Daniel Murphy, Joseph Schabel, James Sheehan, Harold Sikorski, Richard Simons, John Wangler and Leroy White.
