Program Specific Requirements

Graduate Prerequisites Completion Program:

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of a Preliminary Graduate Prerequisites Transcript Review to assess which, if any, of the prerequisite requirements have been satisfied. This review is subject to the M.A./M.A.P.S. admissions committee's final approval for matriculation into a degree program.

Basic Diploma in Pastoral Ministry:

  • Involvement in some parish ministry.

Basic Diploma in Music Ministry:

  • A basic competency in the student's major instrument, demonstrated through an audition with the director of music.
  • Involvement in a parish music program.

Intermediate Diploma in Diaconal Studies:

  • Completion of a Basic Diploma and acceptance into Diaconate Formation by the Archdiocese of Detroit.

Associate of Arts in Ministry:

  • Additional interview with the assistant dean of studies.
  • High school diploma with a 2.5 GPA on a 4 point system or a GED score of at least 50.
  • For transferring students, in addition to above, a college GPA of 2.0 on a 4 point system.
  • Satisfactory ACT or SAT scores (ACT scores are preferred).
  • Involvement in some parish ministry.

Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy:

  • Additional interview with the assistant dean of studies and/or designated members of the SHMS faculty.
  • High school diploma with a 2.5 GPA on a 4 point system or a GED score of at least 50.
  • For transferring students, in addition to above, a college GPA of 2.5 on a 4-point system.
  • Satisfactory ACT or SAT scores (ACT scores are preferred).
  • A minimum high school involvement in college preparatory program.

Bachelor of Philosophy:

  • A bachelor degree or its equivalent (which includes demonstrated competency in oral communication, writing, research, and a course in psychology or sociology).
  • Additional interview with the assistant dean of studies and/or other designated members of the SHMS faculty.
